OttoE PoE Watchdog Troubleshooting Guide
Watchdog Not Triggering
Check: Are DIP #1–#8 enabled? Is DIP #9 (startup delay) still counting down? Has the switch been rebooted
Fix: Reproduce after the delay ends.
Frequent Reboots (False Positives)
Cause: Ultra-low-traffic or power-only PDs can be misidentified as “inactive.”
Fix: Disable Watchdog on that port.
PD Doesn’t Come Back Online After Reboot
Check: Is the PoE budget sufficient (inrush when multiple high-power PDs power up)? Are cabling/termination quality and run length within spec?
Fix: Swap the Ethernet cable, port, or PSE (e.g., PoE injector/switch) to cross-test. Stagger the power-up if necessary.
Compatibility Note: PoE Splitters / Non-Standard PDs
Use devices compliant with IEEE 802.3af/at/bt whenever possible. Passive PoE or non-standard PDs may behave unpredictably; consider disabling Watchdog on that port.
Quick Checklist
- DIP #1–#8 mapping is correct; #9 delay matches the PD’s boot time.
- The switch has been rebooted after changes.
- PoE budget is adequate; cabling follows spec (Cat5e or better, ≤ 100 m).
- Low-traffic devices have Watchdog disabled.
