FAQ

Is there any way to avoid broadcast/multicast storm in my network?

Answer:

Enable the Storm Detect / Storm-Control feature on your managed switch.

  1. Per-port monitoring – Each port can watch broadcast and/or multicast traffic by percentage of link bandwidth or packets per second.
  2. Automatic shut-off – When traffic on a port exceeds the threshold you set, the switch immediately disables that port to stop the storm.
  3. Timed recovery – Optionally configure the switch to re-enable the port after a user-defined interval.

Example

  • Ports ge1 and ge2 are configured with storm-control thresholds of 80% link utilization or 3000 packets per second for both broadcast and multicast traffic.
  • If either port exceeds either threshold, the switch immediately disables that port to halt the storm.
  • When the recovery timer is set to 10 seconds, the port automatically re-enables itself 10 seconds after being shut down.
