The Future of PoE IEEE 802.3bt – Challenges and Opportunities The first Power over Ethernet (PoE) standard was ratified in 2003. Since then, the use of PoE has increased dramatically and expanded into many new applications. With its huge benefits regarding ease of installation and reduction of materials cost, PoE is proving to be widespread and well accepted power standard for use around the world.
In the past, the main limiting factor affecting PoE use in new applications has been the amount of available power. Now, the newest standard waiting to be ratified promises a PoE output of a massive 90 watts. EtherWAN plans to be at the forefront of this new standard, and we will analyze what applications and edge products will benefit the most from the increased power availability, and how we will be ready to provide the most economical and efficient solutions to meet this new trend.
