Reliable Industrial Networking for Solar Power Plants

EtherWAN's industrial networking solutions help a large-scale solar power plant in Saudi Arabia establish reliable, scalable communications from field devices to the central control center.

Networking Challenges in Large-Scale Solar Power Plants

Large-scale solar power plants require continuous data transmission between distributed field devices and central SCADA systems. Saudi Arabia's extreme heat and harsh desert conditions further demand rugged networking equipment.

With over 200 industrial networking devices deployed in a single area, the network must support extensive connectivity, reliable data transmission, redundancy, and future expansion.

EtherWAN's Three-Tier Network Solution & Results

EtherWAN implemented a three-tier architecture (Core, Aggregation, and Access) integrating a 10GbE fiber backbone, OSPF dynamic routing, and VRRP/RSTP redundancy to ensure reliable, high-performance communications.

The scalable design enables seamless connectivity between field devices and the control center while simplifying future expansion as new solar generation areas are added.

10GbE Fiber Connectivity to the Control Center

The EG97000 Series serves as the network backbone, transmitting field data from solar generation areas to the central control center via 10GbE fiber uplinks.

Routing Across Solar Generation Areas

The EG97000 and IG5 connect generation areas to the core network. Network segmentation helps isolate traffic and faults while supporting future expansion.

Field Device Connectivity & Redundancy

The IG5 Series connects field devices, with VRRP providing gateway redundancy and RSTP preventing network loops while maintaining backup paths to minimize disruptions.
