Can α-ring connect with RSTP?
α-ring can connect to any redundant protocol such as RSTP, STP, MSTP and also other company’s privately Ring.

Can alpha-ring connect with RSTP?
How does Flow Control operate in EtherWAN managed switches?
EtherWAN managed switches are compliant with IEEE802.3x standard. Flow Control is a feature of IEEE802.3x that to inhibit the transmission of incoming packets. If a buffer on a port runs out of space, the port transmits a special packet that called “pause frame” and requests remote ports to delay sending packets for a period of time.
How does the hardware reset button work?
Press the reset button of 15 seconds, the password will be restored to default value.

Note: The reset button can only reset the password, not to restore all settings of the device.
How the latency is calculated?
It has 2 ways to calculate, “Cut through” and “Store and Forward”.

Cut-through (First In First Out, FIFO) - The frame is forwarded through the switch before the entire frame is received. At a minimum the frame destination address must be read before the frame can be forwarded. This mode decreases the latency of the transmission, but also reduces error detection.

Store-and-forward (Last In First Out, LIFO) - The entire frame is received before any forwarding takes place. The destination and source addresses are read and filters are applied before the frame is forwarded. Latency occurs while the frame is being received. Latency is greater with larger frames because the entire frame must be received before the switching process begins. The switch is able to check the entire frame for errors, which allows more error detection.
How to configure combo port priority?
The combo port priority can only be configured via CLI. The copper port is the first priority by default.

1. Connect PC and switch via DB9 console cable
2. Open Hyper Terminal
3. Baud rate : 115200, Dada bits: 8, Stop bits: 1, Parity: none
4. Type following commands
A. switch_a login: root
B. switch_a>enable
C. switch_a#configure terminal

How to import private MIB into SNMPc server?
1. Save the private MIB file “EtherWAN-SwithM.mib” to the SNMPc\mibfiles sub-directory. Assuming that you accepted the installation defaults, the complete path will be “C:\Program Files\SNMPc Network Manager\mibfiles”.
2. Go to Windows “start” menu, “start toAll Programs toSNMPc Network Manager toStartup System” to startup SNMPc.
3. At the “Server Login” prompt, enter the User Name (Administrator) and Password (no password) and press “OK” button.
4. Select the “Config\MIB Database” from within the SNMPc console.
5. The “Compile Mibs” screen.
6. Press “Add” button and then highlight the name of your MIB file. Press “OK” button when you have highlighted the private MIB “etherwan-switchm.mib” that you wish to add.
7. Press “Compile” button to compile all MIB files.
8. Press “Yes” button to start “Compile Mibs”.
9. Press “OK” button to confirm “Mib Compile OK”.
10. Press “Done” button to confirm “Mib Compile OK”.
11. Etherwan Private MIB will be shown under “Snmp Mibs toprivate toetherwan.
How to restore default of EtherWAN switches via console interface?
1. Connect PC and EtherWAN switch via DB9 console cable
2. Open Hyper Terminal
3. Baud rate : 115200, Dada bits: 8, Stop bits: 1, Parity: none
4. Type following commands
A. switch_a login: root
B. switch_a>enable
C. switch_a#restore default

How to restore default of EtherWAN switches via console interface?
How to upgrade firmware of EtherWAN switches?
1. Open up TFTP server (or a similar TFTP server software)
2. Click Browse
3. Browse to the Firmware folder where the firmware is located (or depending on where you stored the firmware in your hard drive) and click OK
4. Now open Internet Explorer (IE) and connect to your Switch’s IP address (the default IP address of the switch is 192.168.1.10), login as root (default password is blank)
5. Go to System to Firmware Upgrade and input the firmware’s filename and TFTP server IP address
6. During firmware update, do not power off the switch, wait until the “Firmware upgrade success!” message is displayed, indicating that the process is finished.
7. Now reboot the switch to complete the process
How α-ring works?
Switch monitor itself ring ports status to detect ring failure. When switch detect a link down state, it will send link change pause to other switches in the ring, to recover the path and keep the link as well.

What is α-ring?
α-ring is a redundant protocol that created by EtherWAN, in case of failure switch over to alternative path.
Why my settings are disappeared after reboot?
It is required to save your configurations after changes are made. Otherwise all settings will be back to the default value after reboot.
